DSM Engineers was formed in 2014 and our head office is based in Ballybofey, Co. Donegal and to date we have completed numerous projects in the fields of Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering and Environmental Engineering. These projects have been based both locally in Donegal and across Ireland. We have also carried out works on projects in England, Scotland & Wales.

We have a small but dedicated staff including Structural / Civil Engineers, Fire Safety Engineers and admin staff who are all focused on providing our clients with a prompt and efficient service. Our staff include Chartered Engineers and we maintain memberships with recognised professional bodies Engineers Ireland and the Institution of Structural Engineers. We have also invested in the most up to date structural / civil design and modelling software to aid us in providing a first class service to our clients.

Ian Patton, Managing Director, Chartered Structural Engineer

Ian has worked for structural steel contractors from 1998 to 2013 where roles held include structural steel and cladding estimator, structural design detailer and project manager. Along with various design, 3D modelling and health and safety courses completed Ian has also undertook part time study at University of Ulster Jordanstown where he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering. Along with his extensive experience of steelwork Ian has also designed and supervised many reinforced concrete structures including frames, foundations, retaining walls and tanks since starting DSM in 2014. Ian utilises his significant previous experience to ensure that economy, sustainability and buildability are to the forefront of his designs.

Brian O’ Byrne, Senior Chartered Engineer

Brian has worked for Consulting Engineers since 2000 when he graduated from DIT Bolton Street with a Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering. His experience includes design and supervision of housing schemes, schools, retail units, commercial buildings and many one off housing developments. Area of expertise include structural design, civil design, foul water, storm water and attenuation design and he also has spent time based on site as Resident Engineer. Brian has an interest in environmental work and currently undertakes appropriate screening reports for sites in or near special areas of conservation.
